Towels for holiday rentals
Are towels part of the basic equipment in a holiday rental?
In Germany, there is no strict requirement for holiday apartments or holiday homes to provide towels for guests. For a long time, it was common for travellers to bring their own bed linen and towels. Nowadays, however, many hosts provide both. This makes travelling easier for guests and is also a practical advantage in marketing. It also appeals to visitors who are not travelling by car and prefer to pack light.
However, if you have your holiday property officially classified by the German Tourism Association, a 4-star rating requires you to provide at least two towels per person.
How many towels per guest make sense?
Unlike hotels, holiday rentals are only obliged to provide towels if they have a 4-star classification. A practical guideline is to offer one hand towel (50 × 100 cm) and one bath or bath towel (for example 80 × 150 cm) per guest.
Even without official classification, two towels per person is a sensible rule of thumb. You should also consider providing a bath mat, as well as spare towels or additional guest towels if needed.
Which towels should you provide in a holiday rental?
Whether you let your property on a weekly basis or also cater to shorter stays, towels and other textiles will inevitably be subject to wear and tear over time. Frequent use and washing require high quality, durable and easy-care materials.
Investing in high-quality towels pays off in the long run, as they can withstand high washing temperatures and provide guests with a pleasant feel. The keyword “hotel quality” is also highly relevant for holiday rental hosts:
- Towels should be highly absorbent
- Towels should be soft and retain their softness – knitted terry and woven terry are ideal
- A weight of around 400 gsm or more ensures a comfortable feel
- The material should be washable at at least 60°C
- Seams should be durable
In addition, it’s advisable to choose towel sets in coordinated colours. White towels evoke a hotel-like feel and can enhance the overall impression of your property. However, stains such as make-up are more visible on white fabrics. More practical options include neutral tones like grey or blue, as well as brighter colours—provided they match your interior design. If you use colourful bed linen, you can also coordinate your towels accordingly, opting for shades such as orange, yellow or green. This allows you to express your individuality as a host and shows that your holiday rental is managed with attention to detail.
We offer a wide range of multi-piece towel sets, for example from the MÖVE NEW CLASSIC range or our classic MÖVE SUPERWUSCHEL collection. However, all of our collections are suitable for holiday apartments and holiday homes, depending on your personal taste and interior style.
