The Right Towel for Your Holiday

Summer is approaching – and with it, hopefully, a wonderful holiday. Perhaps you’re heading to the beach or to a hotel with a pool? Sometimes towels are provided on site, while in other cases you’ll need to bring your own. Some towels are particularly well suited for travelling. We’ve put together what these are and what you should look out for when choosing a towel for your trip. 

Summer vibes with maritime patterns

In summer especially, we love bold colours and large patterns. What might feel a bit “too much” in your bathroom at home is just right on the beach! When it comes to beach towels, eye-catching, large-scale designs are more than welcome. The ideal holiday towel already sets the mood for travel when you look at it at home and pack it into your suitcase.

Holiday towels: consider material and weight

If you’re travelling by car, space and weight are rarely an issue. However, if you’re taking your luggage on a plane or train, volume and weight limits become important factors when choosing the perfect holiday towel.

In summer, lighter materials are usually sufficient thanks to higher temperatures – after all, your towel should dry quickly. There are various options to choose from, depending on your destination.

Many people associate cotton terry with heavy, luxurious towels – but depending on the yarn and weaving technique, cotton beach towels can also be thin and therefore lightweight. Packing list: these towels are essential

Even if towels are provided in your hotel or holiday apartment, you should – if your luggage allows – bring a few of your own.

Hotel towels are usually not permitted to be taken to the beach, and even large bath towels are generally too small to qualify as proper beach towels. They’re also not particularly comfortable to lie on. So be sure to pack at least one large beach towel per person. An ideal size is 100 × 170 cm or larger.

For cleansing your face, whether in your accommodation or on the go, a square face cloth is perfect. Thanks to its compact size, it fits easily into a handbag and can be quickly washed and reused – making it even more space-saving than disposable cleansing wipes.

In summary: especially on warm days, it’s important that towels dry quickly. They should also be absorbent – and, if possible, compact. So when choosing, opt for light, summery qualities rather than bulky alternatives.
