More than just cotton: the MÖVE materials A–Z
Finding your way through today’s maze of textiles is not exactly easy. Whether cotton, viscose or linen: every fabric is defined by a particular composition. At MÖVE, the material mix is at least as varied as the product world itself. With this little guide to materials, you can learn more about the composition of your fluffy companions.
Cotton – the all-rounder
Cotton has proven to be a particularly skin-friendly fabric with a low allergy potential. It is obtained – contrary to what the name might suggest – from the fluffy fibre surrounding the seed capsule that grows from the blossom of the cotton plant.
The vast majority of MÖVE collections are made from 100% finest Mako cotton, distinguished by its especially long cotton fibres and therefore only minimally prone to fluff formation. It is also softly combed, which makes it fluffy and absorbent and therefore ideally suited to the production of terry products.
Towels, bathrobes and bath mats made from cotton also tolerate heat well. They can easily be washed at higher temperatures of 60°C (coloured items) or 90°C (white items) – making them robust, easy to care for and highly versatile. Classic MÖVE collections made from 100% cotton terry include, for example, the plain ranges “MÖVE SUPERWUSCHEL” and
“MÖVE NEW ESSENTIAL”
But cotton is not just cotton – there are differences here too, created through processing and finishing. The innovative high-tech yarn Airspin, for example, consists of cotton with a core of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol), which is washed out after weaving. The result is a yarn with many hollow spaces that is extremely light, yet very voluminous. It is more absorbent than conventional cotton, dries more quickly and feels wonderfully soft. MÖVE uses it successfully in its “MÖVE LOFT” range and the “MÖVE WELLNESS” collection.
Viscose and linen – cotton’s elegant siblings
Among man-made fibres, viscose is the most natural, as its finished fibres consist entirely of plant-based components. The good thing is that viscose can be designed in many different visual styles. Whether it resembles cotton, silk or linen: there is something for every taste. Speaking of linen: the fibres of this material are obtained from the flax plant. However, cultivating this crop is very labour-intensive and therefore costly.
Both viscose and linen are delicate materials that shrink easily and crease quickly. Pure viscose should therefore be washed at no more than 40°C and, above all, should not be put in the tumble dryer. Linen, by contrast, can withstand washing at temperatures of up to 60°C.
In the “MÖVE BROOKLYN” collection, these three materials and their typical characteristics come together, giving the collection its sophistication and elegance. The carefully selected cotton provides softness and absorbency, viscose adds a matt sheen, and the linen content gives it a firm handle and a light massage effect. At the same time, the high-contrast graphic motifs stand out particularly strikingly on this blend.
Linen in combination with cotton is also on trend and is used by MÖVE in the “MÖVE SPA” and “MÖVE EDEN” collections. This yarn blend gives the products their special character: the linen content lends them their natural look and firm feel, while the softness comes from the high proportion of cotton.
For several years now, MÖVE has also been using viscose made from bamboo pulp in its “MÖVE BAMBOO LUXE” collection. Towels and bathrobes made from this rapidly renewable raw material feel silky soft and have a lustrous appearance. Bamboo yarn is more absorbent than conventional cotton, dries quickly, is breathable and also has a natural antibacterial effect.
Vitamin E & terry towelling – unique care with a triple effect
Admittedly, vitamin E is not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of terry products. That changes, however, when you take a closer look at the “BATH & BEAUTY by MÖVE” collection. In this range, MÖVE has shown that it is possible to incorporate this valuable micronutrient directly into the yarn fibre as an active ingredient. The result is a silky, glossy and wonderfully soft fabric that carries the vitamin E stably inside and gradually releases it to the skin and hair over time. Thanks to the two different towel textures, the skin is simultaneously pampered with a gentle peeling effect, an invigorating massage and valuable care. In this way, MÖVE combines the best of skincare and terry towelling into a new dimension of daily skin and hair care.
