You do not need a pool or a sauna for a relaxing spa day in your own bathroom. With the right atmosphere and suitable care products, a wellness day at home can be just as successful.

A Soothing Bath

A bath is a particularly good way to begin a wellness day or evening. Beforehand, the bathroom can be warmed up, as the feeling of relaxation should continue even after the full bath. Ideally, the water should be between 36 and 39°C so as not to deprive the body of too much moisture or put strain on the circulation.

Fragrant bath additives, for example a bubble bath or bath salts with petals, help to soften the skin and promote relaxation. The bath should be ended after 20 minutes.

For drying off afterwards, a particularly soft and cosy towel is ideal. Then slip into a bathrobe and wrap your hair in a terry towelling turban. That way, the sense of comfort and relaxation can continue.

Massage? Gladly – with a Brush!

As treatments cannot be booked within your own four walls, massage has to happen in another way: massage brushes or sponges can be used during the bath or afterwards as part of a dry-brushing massage. For sensitive skin, a gentle exfoliating glove is more suitable.

Massage stimulates circulation and gets the body moving. At the same time, it provides an exfoliating effect and removes loose flakes of skin. This creates a more even complexion and prepares the skin for skincare products.

How to massage:

1. Legs: Start on the outer sides of the legs and massage downwards from the hips to the ankles. Move across the soles of the feet to the inner sides and then continue upwards again.

2. Arms: Massage from the backs of the hands towards the shoulders, then work downwards from the armpits to the palms.

3. Body: Massage gently from the shoulders over the neck, then the stomach and chest, and continue over the buttocks and back upwards again.

Gentle Care

After the bath or massage, the body deserves an extra dose of care. Not only oils are suitable for this, but also creams or body butter. Warm scents such as vanilla or cocoa release feel-good hormones. Fruity aromas create a sense of energy and activity, while floral fragrances such as rose or lavender have a relaxing effect.

You should also make time for a mask on your wellness day. There are not only face masks, but also hair or foot masks. This means the relaxation can be focused exactly where it is currently needed most.

Special scrubs are also suitable for lips, feet or hands. A hand scrub is the perfect way to begin a manicure. Afterwards, the cuticles should be moisturised and pushed back, before gently buffing and filing the nails. If you like, you can then apply nail varnish. The same can of course be done for the feet.

A lip scrub leaves lips feeling velvety soft – and if you then apply a thin layer of honey for around 10 minutes, the result can be truly impressive.

Movement for Body and Mind

Whether it is yoga or simply a walk in the woods, movement is good for the body not only on a wellness day. Exercise brings further relaxation and also helps you switch off and clear your mind.

Digital Detox

Wellness is not only about the body – your inner mindset can relax too. It is especially important to put your phone or laptop aside for a while, or switch them to flight mode. No social media, no news, no work.

Constant availability is often a source of stress. If you deliberately leave your phone at home during a walk or turn off push notifications, you also avoid that rushed glance at the screen. Of course, some things will need to be caught up on later, but for a while they should be “out of sight, out of mind” – only then can true relaxation happen.

Enjoyment with All the Senses

A lovely day or evening can involve more than just baths and creams. The right music in particular enhances the spa feeling. Scented candles or fresh flowers also bring a pleasant atmosphere into the house or flat.

Snacks and drinks can also help create a sense of wellbeing. Whether it is a glass of champagne or perhaps a hot mug of chocolate instead, the right choice is whatever feels good today. Some people enjoy taking their time in the kitchen to prepare their favourite meal, while others treat themselves to something special from a delivery service. In this way, the day can gently draw to a close and the feeling of relaxation will hopefully linger for a while.
