Coordinating Colours in the Bathroom

When furnishings and decoration are coordinated, a special atmosphere is created: the room not only feels homely and cosy, but also tidy – even when you use a lot of decorative elements. It is precisely this sense of order that we also want in the bathroom. Textiles such as towels, bath rugs or shower curtains help to introduce colourful accents. If you make sure that all these bathroom textiles come from the same colour family, you can create a particularly elegant and high-quality impression with “colour matching”.

When coordinating colours in the bathroom, not all towels have to be the same colour or necessarily pick up the shade of the bath rug. However, if you limit yourself – depending on the size of the room and the number of towels – to two or three matching colours, you will achieve variety while still maintaining a harmonious overall look. Especially when several people use the bathroom, differently coloured towels are also ideal for avoiding mix-ups.

You can also play with patterns: for example, the towels from the MÖVE PAISLEY collection are patterned and can be combined perfectly with one another. Plain dark red or black towels, for example from the MÖVE SUPERWUSCHEL collection, also go well with them.

Towels and Tile Colour: What Works Well Together

Many bathrooms are designed in classic white. Here, you will usually have no problem choosing a suitable towel, because everything goes with white! Modern bathrooms, however, often also feature dark tiles – sometimes only on the floor, sometimes on the walls as well. So, if you are wondering which towel colour works best with grey tiles or how to make sure that your tiles really stand out, we have the answer.

If you have white walls and a light floor in the bathroom, white towels will of course also match, but they can quickly look rather boring. Here, you can opt for patterned and graphic towels, but in principle you can also use any coloured towels. Blue towels create a maritime atmosphere in the bathroom, and you can combine different shades ranging from dark blue to pastel tones.

Furnishings made of light wood or soft, muted colours already create a calming effect in themselves. Cream-coloured towels look understated and fit in well here, while a pale grey is also ideal.

Dark tiles in the bathroom – grey, anthracite or black – on the other hand, need contrast so that they do not appear too gloomy. Especially if you have a small bathroom or an internal bathroom, you should counterbalance dark floor and wall tiles with a clever choice of textiles. It is entirely up to you whether you want to go for something bright and bold – yellow or orange, for example – or whether a delicate pink or a soft mint green suits you better. In the pastel MÖVE LOFT collection, you will also find bath mats that match the towels in colour.

Choosing Towels to Match the Décor

It is not only the wall and floor colour that matter when choosing towels that match in both colour and style. Your interior style and the colours of your bathroom furniture should also be taken into account when making your purchase.

In a modern or minimalist bathroom with a concrete look, wooden accents or large, rather dark tiles, you can also choose understated colours for the towels. A pale grey or a beige shade can work just as well as black bath towels.

If you have a lot of wood in the bathroom and your interior style leans more towards country house style, both pastel colours and cream and grey tones work well. In a bathroom with coloured walls or patterned wallpaper, you can also pick up the wall colour in your choice of bathroom textiles.

In general, though, anything you like is allowed. Instead of working with different colours, you can also play with textures in the bathroom and, for example, create accents with collections in waffle piqué or bouclé yarn.
