What does double-face mean in towels?
Doubleface: Attractive front and back
When referring to double-face in towels or other textiles, it means a fabric that can be used on both sides while still being visually appealing. Often, a pattern is woven in such a way that the colors on the front and back mirror each other: sometimes with stripes or small accents where the different sides of the double-face design vary. It is also possible to weave more elaborate and striking patterns as a double-face design.
This mirrored look is a sophisticated technique that also allows garments to be worn on both sides. In some cases, different materials are even used to enhance the contrast.
How is double-face made?
Double-face is a double-layer fabric woven with a binding warp. Both sides can be similar or very different in terms of pattern, material, and color.
This technique is used not only for towels but also for high-quality jackets or coats. The key is that both sides are designed to be worn on the outside. For towels, this means both sides can be displayed. How you hang them is entirely up to your aesthetic preference.
Double-face towels
In towels, double-face means that both sides of the terry cloth differ in color and the pattern is reversed. This works not only for solid-colored towels or subtle two-tone patterns, but also for more elaborate designs, such as in our collection Möve TIDE. In the collection Möve EDEN, we offer some towels with differing sides that also vary in texture.
The different colors are already perfectly coordinated, so you can easily bring variety into the look of your towels. The reversible design creates a new look in your bathroom—depending on which side you display. This makes double-face towels especially interesting and gives them that “certain something.”

Versatile combinations
Overall, double-face towels are perfect for mix & match. You can not only use and hang multiple similar towels on different sides, but also combine colors or patterns within the same collection. Especially with patterned double-face towels, combining them with solid-colored terry items works very well.
If you are not buying towels as a pre-set but putting them together yourself, you can pay attention to the following when combining terry items:
- Color and pattern: similar colors or towels in different colors but with the same pattern go well together
- Texture: with the same color scheme, the texture can vary and create contrast
- Material: when combining different series, the material should be identical
- Weight (GSM): the fabric weight can—but does not have to—be similar
Whichever option you choose—we wish you lots of fun experimenting and combining!
