Wellness in summer: relax and feel good
Feeling good at high temperatures
For many of us, wellness is associated with autumn and winter. When it’s cold outside, we escape into a warm sauna or relax with a soothing massage. However, summer wellness has its own unique appeal and possibilities. Whether you are planning a short trip or looking for relaxation closer to home, here are the right tips for you.
Cool water: swimming, splashing, and bathing
On a beautiful summer day, many adults are reminded of childhood holidays at the outdoor pool: the smells, the sensations, and the craving for fries or ice cream are deeply rooted in us and naturally evoke relaxation. But it doesn’t have to stop at the feeling—if your local outdoor pool doesn’t appeal to you, you can look for alternatives such as:
- Natural swimming pond or open-air pool
- Outdoor pool at a hotel or spa
- The open sea
Can’t travel at the moment? Then a warm bath in a lukewarm tub can also be a refreshing and soothing experience. Unlike a shower, it cools the body more slowly and steadily, creating a long-lasting feeling of freshness.
Fitness: recovery through movement
Perhaps you are already a gym member or enjoy going for a run? In summer, it can get very hot early on, but if you choose the right time of day, running can still be enjoyable. This means either getting up very early or going for a run in the evening.
Most gyms today are well air-conditioned, especially in hotels while on holiday. What benefits you in everyday life is also good on holiday, helping you feel energised throughout the day. If available, you can also treat yourself to a massage afterwards and unwind—just like professional athletes—or simply relax.
Hiking is also wellness for both body and mind. Not least because mobile reception is often limited, allowing you to fully focus on the present moment and feel grounded.
Yoga & meditation for inner calm
What we often lack in daily life is time for rest and reflection. With yoga sessions or guided meditation, you can recharge your energy in a way that lasts beyond your holiday. Some wellness hotels offer classes, while others allow you to use the space on your own. Perhaps you can even go out into nature and simply immerse yourself in the experience?
Have you heard of forest bathing? In guided forest walks—known in Japan as “Shinrin Yoku”—you can fully engage with the forest, its sounds, colours, and scents, and slow down. Such experiences are offered in many places, but you can also enjoy them on your own.
Food & drink

You can also treat your body to wellness through food in summer. Fresh fruit and vegetables taste especially good in warm weather and have a positive effect on your well-being. Refreshing cold dishes such as gazpacho or cucumber soup with yoghurt are also excellent choices.
When it’s very hot, try to avoid (too much) alcohol. Instead, why not try a “mocktail”—a non-alcoholic cocktail that tastes just as good! Or take your time to enjoy a light summer dinner—whether with a partner, your best friend, or on your own. Find a nice place to relax and look forward to the next (warm) day.
And one thing you shouldn’t forget on your short trip or summer wellness holiday: your favourite bathrobe.
