The diligent rattling of 30 Jacquard weaving machines, the watchful eyes of the employees, fine yarns, and the fusion of innovation and sustainability – these set the rhythm of the production site in Großschönau, Saxony, the industriously beating heart of MÖVE. We would like to give you a glimpse behind the scenes and show you everything that goes into the production of a MÖVE towel.

The entire manufacturing process, from warp production to weaving and finishing, takes place at the company’s own production facility. In doing so, MÖVE can rely on the many years of expertise of the textile specialists from Großschönau. Sustainability and environmental protection have also always been a top priority at MÖVE. For this reason, MÖVE supports its production site in the Zittau Mountains / Upper Lusatia Nature Park through extensive investment, helping to ensure that the area’s flora and fauna are preserved for future generations as well.

The fabric these towels are made of

With a great deal of experience, tradition and long-standing expertise, MÖVE’s high-quality terry products are manufactured in Großschönau. All products across the various collections are made from the finest yarns, ensuring an outstanding feel-good experience. If you particularly like things fluffy and soft, the velvety Premium Cotton used in the relaunched “MÖVE SUPERWUSCHEL” collection is especially recommended thanks to its high, dense loops. The fabric used in the “BATH & BEAUTY by MÖVE” collection with vitamin E is a blend of 70 per cent cotton, 25 per cent viscose and 5 per cent lyocell. The combination of yarn fibres with vitamin E and nourishing oils transforms your bathroom into a true spa sanctuary. For the more sporty type, the lightweight and quick-drying blend of natural cotton and linen (80 per cent / 20 per cent), as used in the “MÖVE EDEN” and “MÖVE SPA” collections, is ideal. The supple companions gain a particularly robust feel from a special yarn blend – cotton and hemp – which is used in the “MÖVE VIENNA MESH” collection (80 per cent / 20 per cent). In Großschönau, they also continue to experiment with extremely light or heavy yarns and different material blends, for example silk and modal or viscose and linen – naturally always blended with a main proportion of cotton. The latter composition is used in the stylish “MÖVE BROOKLYN” collection.

Who exactly is this Jacquard, and why is he so fond of terry towelling?

Anyone who has always wondered exactly how MÖVE’s patterned towels are made or woven is about to become a little wiser: the high-quality fabric is produced with the help of Jacquard weaving and then further processed. With Jacquard machines, named after their French inventor Joseph Marie Jacquard, every single warp thread can be raised and lowered as desired using punch cards, needles, punched plates and harness cords. This makes it possible to weave patterns in almost any shape and size. The difference compared with other looms used to produce similar fabrics is that on those, warp threads can only be lifted in groups. In Großschönau, 30 Jacquard looms ensure that we can enjoy high-quality terry products such as towels, bath mats and bathrobes after every shower. And for anyone now wondering what the difference actually is between frotté and frottier, here is the explanation: Frotté is a fabric whose yarn is twisted into loops on one side. Frottier, by contrast, consists of a woven fabric (made up of warp / weft / warp) that has loops on both sides. These loops are created during weaving, which is why a special loom is required. Quality made in Germany

The name MÖVE stands for the highest quality and sophisticated design made in Germany. MÖVE has been producing high-quality terry products in Germany since 1927. The modern production facilities and the expertise of the employees guarantee the high quality of the products. Only the finest, carefully selected materials are used in the manufacture of the terry products at the Großschönau production site. Alongside the quality of the yarns, particular importance is also placed on innovative materials. As a result, fibres such as linen, hemp and bamboo – as well as high-tech materials – have increasingly found their way into the collections in recent years.

Finally, an extensive and strict quality control process ensures that only first-class products leave the premises. Naturally, MÖVE is certified according to DIN EN ISO standards and holds the Öko-Tex 100 certificate.
