Sustainable Living – 3 tips on how to do something good for yourself and the environment
For many of us, a mindful approach to our bodies and the environment is becoming increasingly important. Doing something good for nature — and therefore for yourself as well — may sound like a major challenge at first. But with just a few small tips and tricks, you can make your everyday life a little more sustainable. How? We are about to tell you.
Coming home after a stressful day to candlelight and pleasant fragrances — what could be lovelier? And the best thing is, if you leave the lights off during your evening bathroom routine and use candles instead: the energy you save is not only good for the environment, but also for your body. Thanks to the high proportion of red light in candlelight, the hormone melatonin is released more readily, which promotes deep and healthy sleep. Relax, for example, with our candles from the MÖVE SIGNATURE range, which envelop your home in the three wonderful fragrances Blood Orange, Velvet Cream or Amber.
But there are many other ways to make your bathroom routine a little more sustainable: turn off the tap while brushing your teeth and soaping up, or wash your hands and face with cold water more often! The latter not only saves energy, but also stimulates circulation and improves the skin’s firmness.
Through your diet
Our diet can benefit not only our bodies, but also the environment. A very current example is the so-called “win-win diet”, which follows exactly this principle: it is a way of eating that benefits both people and the planet. Plenty of vegetables, fruit and nuts, combined with a greatly reduced meat intake, form the basic principles of the “win-win diet”. If you do not want to give up meat entirely, you should pay attention to its origin and to humane farming practices when shopping — though ideally you should choose regional products. Using seasonal foods is also good for both the environment and your health, constantly offers fresh inspiration for dishes made with fresh ingredients, and helps reduce your own ecological footprint.
Through your consumer habits
Despite all our good intentions, things we no longer need still end up in the bin far too quickly these days. But you can easily avoid this, because constantly buying everything new is not necessary if you prioritise quality from the outset. It is enough to pay closer attention to the country of origin of a product and the material it is made from when making a purchase. Sustainably made products from natural, renewable raw materials are durable, beautiful and environmentally friendly. For example, the wood used in the accessories from our MÖVE TEAK range comes 100% from a Swiss-Thai reforestation initiative whose aim is not profit maximisation, but the long-term restoration and protection of natural ecosystems. In addition, the products are processed without additives and are simply washed to remove sawdust. This allows you to furnish your home not only beautifully, but also with a clear conscience.
