Making the Most of Small Towels: What Soap Cloths, Guest Towels and Similar Items Are Good For

Different Sizes – Different Purposes

Towels come in a wide variety of colours, textures and sizes. Of course, you can dry yourself with any towel, but small towels in particular are also suitable for other uses – not for nothing are they called things like “soap cloth” or “wash mitt”.

Towels are considered small when their longest side measures no more than 50 cm. Because of their compact size, they dry more quickly and can therefore be used again sooner. They fulfil their purpose not only in the bathroom at home or in the guest WC, but also when you are out and about.

More Than Just Drying Off

Towels are not only suitable for drying off. Small towels such as soap cloths or wash mitts are ideal for washing and lathering up. The terry towelling also provides a light massage and a gentle exfoliating effect. This means you can happily do without cleansing products containing microplastics and thereby do something good for both your body and the environment.

A wash mitt slips comfortably over the hand, so you have it firmly “under control”. Because of its small size, it is also wonderfully suited to washing babies or toddlers. A square soap cloth fulfils the same purpose just as well.

Compresses and Wraps

Soap cloths or small guest towels are also perfectly suited to wellness purposes. A hot or cold compress can be used to prepare the skin for beauty treatments or to soothe it afterwards. Men may know these hot towels from the barber, while women may know them from the beautician.

A guest towel can also be used as a wrap or compress – a popular home remedy for fever or coughs. It is used for the outer layer of the wrap, which usually consists of three layers. It helps to maintain the temperature of the compress and ensures that, in the case of very damp wraps such as quark compresses, no moisture escapes to the outside. Depending on the part of the body, however, a larger towel may also be used.

Practical Companions When Out and About

We have already mentioned one advantage of small towels: they are hygienic to use and easy to care for. Once they have served their purpose, they go into the washing machine and are dry again more quickly than a large towel. This is especially practical whenever they are used more frequently, for example as a refreshing towel, a guest towel or a small sports towel. Even at the gym, you do not always need a bath towel to lie on – sometimes a guest towel is quite enough and fits neatly into any gym bag.
