Detox for your bathroom: 3 steps to your personal sanctuary

In today’s blog post, you’ll learn how to “declutter” your bathroom with very little effort and keep it tidy in a simple and effective way, so that it continues to shine day after day.

1. Be brave and let go

It’s not only food that has an expiry date – cosmetics do too. That’s why you should be prepared to have a proper clear-out every now and then, rather than hoarding creams and lotions in the cupboard for too long. A quick look at the packaging will tell you when it’s time to part with your beauty products. This is important, because cosmetics used beyond their shelf life can harbour germs.
The same applies to your bathroom textiles, by the way. Towels used by several people should ideally be washed after two days. Shower towels and bath towels used by just one family member can be changed a little less frequently. Even so, after drying off three or four times, they too should go into the washing machine.
Wondering how to restore softness to your favourite terry towels after many washes, so that they can look their best in the bathroom once again? Firstly, give them a good shake before hanging them on the airer; secondly, there is a tried-and-tested household remedy: adding a little vinegar essence to the wash will make your towels wonderfully soft again, and the vinegar smell disappears during washing all by itself.
After around three years, however, it really is time to replace your towels.

2. Everything in its place

The secret to not giving chaos in your bathroom a chance in the first place? Everything has its designated place – that’s one of the key principles of Marie Kondo’s “KonMari method” too.
