Denim in the bathroom – how jeans become an interior look

Did you know that jeans were once more workwear than fashion statement? The pioneer and inventor Levi Strauss – a German-American industrialist from Buttenheim – produced the first pair of jeans as early as 1873 in the form of a waist overall. It was not until the 1950s, however, that the garment became a symbol of youthful rebellion and freedom; a decade later it was seen as a sign of emancipation – and to this day, blue jeans remain a fashion must-have.

Inspired by this, we are now bringing this fashion classic into the bathroom with our latest “MÖVE DENIM” collection. Reason enough to take you on a journey through the history of denim in today’s blog post and to take a closer look at what makes it so special.

From construction worker to Brando to the office
After blue jeans completely shed their worker status in the 1960s, they became a symbol and cult object for young people. Stars such as James Dean and Marlon Brando made life without Levi’s jeans almost unthinkable. And the 1970s without flared trousers? – completely unimaginable. As demand grew, so too did the variety of denim styles. Whether high-waisted, baggy or boyfriend style – all of these variations go through constant ups and downs in the fashion world. The defining characteristics of jeans, however, have always remained the same: indigo blue, the authentic leather label on the waistband and the orange stitching complete the look.

Indigo blue
The term indigo comes from Greek and means “the Indian one”. No wonder, as the homeland of this deep blue dye is East India, where it is obtained from the indigo plant. In Europe, indigo has only been used for dyeing since the Middle Ages and quickly became a trademark of jeans – so what would the new “MÖVE DENIM” range be without the colour that is so typical of the denim look?
The tufted “MÖVE DENIM” bath mat, for example, is entirely in classic denim blue and gains an attractive pattern through its long loops. This makes it the ideal complement to the towels and smaller items in the collection, which – in keeping with the many variations of jeans – are available in four different designs.

Leather label
Since 1886, the leather label on the back waistband has been an integral part of jeans. To this day, it is embossed with the brand name and the company logo. Naturally, this distinctive feature could not be missing from the “MÖVE DENIM” collection. The MÖVE leather label is made of Alcantara, which closely resembles leather or suede in appearance. The historic MÖVE logo has been authentically showcased on it.

Orange stitching
Although the stitching on a pair of jeans may seem like only a tiny detail, it is essential in giving them their desired stability and durability.
The bright orange colour of the stitching was originally chosen to add a decorative touch to the workers’ trousers of the time and remains a defining feature that no genuine “blue jeans” should be without. This year in particular, this striking contrast is once again right on trend – the darker the trousers, the brighter the stitching.
In homage to jeans, one of the beautiful “MÖVE DENIM” bathrobes is also given that certain something through orange stitching.
