Bathroom Trends 2021: Classic and Timeless
Anyone installing a new bathroom or renovating an existing one in 2021 will want to keep up with the times. However, it is worth bearing in mind that bathrooms usually have a long lifespan, and fittings and built-in elements often last 20 to 30 years. That is why the bathroom trend in 2021 is clearly moving towards timeless design, so that you can still enjoy your bathroom for many years to come.
This also includes the overall layout of the room: large walk-in showers are just as much on trend as freestanding bathtubs. With enough space in the bathroom, this can create a genuine wellness area.
Colour Trends in the Bathroom
Pure white bathrooms are passé! Grey and black are – as in recent years – still the colours dominating German bathrooms in 2021. The practical thing is that they can easily be combined with classic white as well as with bright accent colours.
Fittings are where colour can come into play: brass creates beautiful accents and works wonderfully with different shades of grey. Coloured washbasins or bathtubs are also on trend – almost like in the seventies.
Bathroom Furniture with a Matt Finish
The glossy surfaces that were so popular in recent years are no longer as sought after in bathrooms in 2021. Instead, the trend is moving towards silky or matt finishes. These are not only attractive, but also practical, as water marks show up less clearly. This trend is reflected not only in furniture, but also in decoration, for example in toothbrush holders or soap dispensers from the MÖVE NEW ORBIT bathroom range.
The material follows the colour trends and brings the industrial style, which has already made its way into other rooms in recent years, into the bathroom as well. Concrete and steel are now also appearing in bathrooms. However, instead of grey and anthracite, you can also work with wood in the bathroom to create a warm atmosphere. This also works well in mixed materials, for example a vanity unit in a concrete look with wooden fronts or a wooden top. Clean lines and minimalism remain on trend as well.
Modern Bathroom Tiles
Current bathroom trends relate not only to furniture, but also to tiles. If you are renovating anyway or planning a new bathroom, you can choose shades of grey here too.
Alongside plain, timeless tiles, however, there is also an opulent counter-trend: Asian patterns or Art Nouveau elements are becoming increasingly popular. They are, of course, very striking and may no longer feel modern in a few years’ time. Whether you would want to renovate again so soon is something to consider carefully.
Also on trend: tiling only in selected areas. In other words, only where moisture can really reach the wall – in the shower, around the washbasin and in the toilet area. Elsewhere, bathroom designers in 2021 are happy to work with plaster or wall panels as design elements.
Adding Accents with Décor & Textiles
Because fixed bathroom fittings cannot be changed so easily, textiles and accessories are a good way to pick up trends in the bathroom. A grey shower curtain, a matt toilet roll holder or a toothbrush holder made of cement fit perfectly with the bathroom trends of 2021.
Grey towels or guest towels also look excellent in the bathroom in 2021 and, as timeless classics, will still be in demand in the years ahead. If you do not want to stick to a monochrome look, terry products in particular offer a lovely way to play with colour in the bathroom. Whether pastel or bold, you can really let your imagination run free here.
