What Does the Ideal Bathroom Look Like?

Your own bathroom is a retreat, a place of wellbeing and also a statement. In the bathroom, colours and shapes meet technical possibilities and spatial limitations. A small internal bathroom calls for a different approach to furnishing and decoration than a large room with windows. To create your individual dream bathroom, however, you can ask yourself a few questions and bring aspiration and reality closer together.

Important questions when designing a bathroom:

  • How big is the bathroom?
  • How many people use the bathroom?
  • Are there sloping ceilings or other structural особенheiten?
  • Is there one window or more than one?
  • Do I want a shower, a bath or both?
  • Does the bathroom need to be designed to be accessible?
  • Which interior style do I like?
  • Which colours do I like?

Colours, Materials & Trends

Do you prefer a modern or a classic look? Should the bathroom be light or colourful? These days, almost any style and preference can be realised in the bathroom. With tiles, wallpaper, plaster or parquet flooring … walls and floors in the bathroom should be robust and durable in order to withstand moisture. Thanks to constant innovations, however, even wood is no longer automatically ruled out.

Colour trends change every year, but a bathroom can easily remain in the same design for 20 years or more. Bathroom inspiration is therefore much more than an XXL bathtub, a walk-in shower or mosaic tiles. With accessories and other decorative elements, you can keep recreating your dream bathroom without having to carry out extensive refurbishment.

Anyone who wishes can also add accents with plants in the bathroom. This works in almost all bathroom sizes. Ferns or orchids are particularly suitable, but aloe or a Swiss cheese plant can also provide rich greenery.

Inspiration for Small Bathrooms

In small bathrooms, there often seems to be little room for decoration – or so it may appear. Although storage space is especially important here, you can still give the bathroom its own character with small details. This starts with the tumbler for toothbrushes and continues through the choice of the right toilet brush all the way to the shower curtain.

In a small room – perhaps even one without a window – pay attention to a well-thought-out lighting concept. In an internal bathroom, tones that are too cool often appear even darker, and this can even apply to white. Warm shades, on the other hand, create a cosy atmosphere. Mirrors also bring more light, reflecting and dispersing incoming rays.

Ideas for Large Bathrooms

In an airy room, it is important that it does not feel too empty – so exactly the opposite of a small bathroom. That does not mean you have to fill it with tall cupboards and decorative objects. But you do have the opportunity, through well-placed accessories and a thoughtful colour concept, to guide the eye through the bathroom and create a pleasant atmosphere. A striking focal point can also be an unusual freestanding bathtub with matching fittings.

Bathroom textiles and colour-coordinated decoration also help create a new look in the bathroom with just a few simple touches. Extensive remodelling is not always required to give the bathroom a fresh new feel. Towel sets in a single colour are a practical alternative to buying items individually. A bath rug in a matching colour, which can also pick up a detail from the tiles, completes the look.

A strong design statement can also be made with beautifully shaped accessories such as a soap dispenser, toothbrush holder or toilet brush. Even better if these come as a set and complement one another. There is also plenty of room in a large bathroom for scented candles or diffusers. After all, a harmonious bathroom concept consists of more than just appearance: scents also have a strong effect on us and awaken emotions.
