Colour-Coordinated Bathroom
Depending on which colours are chosen for the bathroom, the room can be made to feel either more cheerful or more cosy. Light colours not only convey cleanliness, but also make small rooms appear larger. Even so, the bathroom does not have to be dominated by a sterile white.
These colours work well in the bathroom:
- White: the classic choice, including shades such as cream or champagne
- Light grey: for a modern look & ideal for combining with other colours
- Blue or green: create harmony and relaxation
- Dark brown: for added cosiness and a sense of comfort
- Black: in bathrooms with (large) windows, not gloomy at all, but modern
It is best not to choose more than three colours for the bathroom. Otherwise, the room can quickly look restless or cluttered.
Anyone who owns their own home can be creative not only with wall colour and accessories, but also with tiles and fittings. In a rented flat, the shower or bath is usually already in place – so there is less scope for design. However, that does not mean tenants cannot style a bathroom to suit their wishes. Which Materials Are Suitable for Bathrooms?
As high humidity is created in the bathroom when showering or bathing, you should make sure that the materials used for bathroom furniture and decorative items are robust and durable.
Natural materials such as wood or stone create warmth and a cosy atmosphere. Decorative items made of plastic, on the other hand, are particularly easy to care for. That does not mean they have to look cheap – there are many beautiful plastic products that bring stylish colour into the bathroom.
Creating Storage Space
In the bathroom, it is not only the spare toothbrush and soap that need to be stored, but often also a hairdryer, spare towels or cleaning products. While towels on open shelving can provide a splash of colour, cleaning products are best hidden behind closed doors.
For example, the fronts of cabinets can be colour-coordinated. Existing furniture can also be painted or covered so that it blends in better.
Pretty bowls or small baskets are suitable for small items such as jewellery, make-up or hair ties. And the towel rail is also part of the bathroom fittings and can express individuality.
Plants in the Bathroom?
Some people swear by it: plants in the bathroom. Houseplants not only create a pleasant indoor climate, but also add beautiful touches of colour. It is better to avoid classic flowering potted plants and instead choose plants that can cope well with warmth and humidity. These are mostly tropical plants – aloe, ferns or orchids feel especially at home in the bathroom. But a ZZ plant or a monstera can also turn the bathroom into a green haven of wellbeing.
Of course, this only applies to bathrooms with natural daylight – if the bathroom has no window, plants are not well suited there either. Anyone who still wants greenery can opt for artificial plants instead.
Decorating with Textiles
Textiles such as towels or bath mats are a particularly quick way to change the look of your bathroom. If the tiles and furniture are rather understated, bold towels or a new shower curtain can quickly introduce fresh accents.
White or light grey towels look simple and elegant. But multi-coloured towels or those with a pattern, such as MÖVE BUENOS AIRES, do not necessarily make a room look busy either: the important thing is that their colours are coordinated with one another and with the room.
