Making of: Creating the New möve Catalogue

Once a year, usually in late autumn, möve presents a new catalog. Its production is a monumental task; almost 200 pages have to be designed, layouted and illustrated with pictures.

The möve collection is extensive; classics like the popular line “Superwuschel” are being completed by an abundance of seasonal novelties every year. Besides towels, bath mats and bathrobes, möve has been more and more presenting matching bathroom accessories like soap trays, boxes and mirrors in recent years.

New Themes, designs, patterns and colors are the foundation of a new annual collection. möve develops superordinated topics, creates new patterns and trendy colors and designs matching bath accessories. In fact, one year in advance! As soon as everything is coordinated, sample towels are first woven in Großschönau in summer. The finished prototypes are going straight in the photo studio, where dozens of boxes full of accessories and props are ready to be used.

When shooting, the upcoming bathroom looks have to be constructed, styled, lit and photographed within a narrow frame of time. Emotions are running high as the following pictures of the möve photo shoot 2015 are showing.

möve: Sustainable by Nature

Today, many consumers want to know exactly where textiles are originated and produced and under what conditions. Those looking for sustainable textiles for the bathroom, will make a find at möve: Since 1927, the family-run business produces towels, bathmats and bathrobes “made in Germany”. Long before the term “Sustainability” arose, möve has already invested in environmental protection and fair manufacturing conditions.

With an environmental and energy efficient investment policy, möve contributes to obtain flora and fauna at the production site, Größschönau in the Oberlausitz, for future generations. With extensive investments (total: 6.5 million euros) during the past few years, möve supported sustainability and environmental protection. For example, möve operates a new solar plant (capacity of over 70.000 kWh / year). Recently, möve took its own cogeneration plant into operations, which contributed a significant improvement of the energy balance of the company. Together with the solar system already installed, 1/3 of the total electricity demand is produced by environmentally friendly power self-supply.

By the way: the möve factory is open to visitors for free tours at all times; everyone can visualize fair working conditions, environmental protection and quality requirements.

How the gull turned into the brand möve

The brand möve was founded in 1927. In the early days, our products were sold with a distinctive emblem that showed a small gull. The name of this pretty bird became our brand name in the course of the following decades. We are spelling “möve” with a “v” because this notation sources from our initial period: In the past, the German word for seagull was written with a “v”, whereas nowadays we are spelling it with a “w”. Our logo has been changing over time; it has become more and more abstract. Today a small stylized seagull adorns our brand logo.
